We are incredibly lucky to have Ben Romalis joining us in August with a special one-off workshop tailored to meet the needs of our ASC Sydney Circle members and attendees!!

This is your chance to learn from an experienced and multi-talented writer and teacher (see his extensive bio below!) who is prepared to address the topics you want to hear about! So think about any reoccurring issues you might be having with your writing process, and let us know what they are!!

Email your own ‘songwriting pain point’ to ascsydneycircle@gmail.com by the end of Sunday 11 August!

As usual, we will also be devoting the second half of the evening to song critiques. See below for details of that and how to register.

ASC Sydney Circle meets on the 3rd Monday each month at
The Cricketer’s Arms Hotel, 255 Darling Street Balmain 2041.  We will be starting sharp at 7:30pm, so arrive slightly early (from 7pm) to chat, order a meal from downstairs, and be ready for things to kick off at 7.30pm!

Join us to develop your skills in the craft and business of songwriting, network and collaborate with other members, and be involved in this supportive and cherished songwriting community.

Songwriters of all music genres and all skill levels are welcome to join.

Free entry for ASC Members.

Non-members (casual) can attend their first two Circle meetings for free and pay $15 at the door to attend meetings after that.

Check out the impressive bio of our esteemed workshop leader! This is your chance to learn from someone who is not only talented at songwriting, producing, and performing, but is also an experienced teacher:

Ben Romalis is a Sydney-based artist specialising in song writing, composition and live performance.

As a founding member of Green Mohair Suits Ben has been writing, performing and touring with this alternative-folk outfit for the past 15 years, releasing four full-length albums and two EPs in that time.

Ben also performs under his own name as well as the pseudonym Silamor. In this context the compositions tend to be more contemporary, blending elements of blues, jazz, electronica and fusion.

In 2012 Ben founded Silamor Studios, a boutique recording and editing studio focusing on high-end music and video productions. Working as the head producer, Ben composes regularly for film and television, interactive art installations and large-scale group projects.

Ben is also currently part of the JMC Academy teaching faculty where he lectures in Songwriting, Advanced Compositional Techniques and Screen Music.

SONG CRITIQUE REGISTRATION PROCESS

As usual, the second half of our monthly #ASCSydneyCircle event will be devoted to song critiques. Register your song title by emailing ascsydneycircle@gmail.com by midday on Sunday 18th August (NB do not email the song itself). Remember to include your ‘songwriting pain point’ as well (by end of Sunday 11th August), so that we can let Ben Romalis know what to cover in his personalised workshop for us!

You can play your song live (unamplified), or have a recorded version of your song on a device that has a headphone jack to plug into our speaker. Plus, bring 15-20 copies of your lyrics on the night.

We usually get through 3-4 songs, and as of the end of July we do already have 5 songs on the list… if you pre-register your song title and join us on the night but there is not enough time to get to your song, we carry over your registration to the following month so you don’t lose your place in the queue. In other words, if a song is not heard due to time constraints, the registration place is carried over. However, if a song is not heard because of non-attendance, the registration is extinguished.
