Our June gathering features the brilliantly talented multi-award-winning songwriter, performing and recording artist, DAVID CARTER, one half of the highly successful Australian Country duo, Carter & Carter.

The second half of the evening will be song critiquing.

WORKSHOP OUTLINE

How to get around the blocks
o Left brain vs right brain in the creative process
o Why editing before creating leads to blocks
o 5 easy methods to get around writing blocks (practical exercise)
o Co-writing – why it works and when it doesn’t ( practical exercise)

The secret to making a song great
o Why re-writing is essential
o Letting go of demoitis
o Understanding how other people can help you make your song great
o Knowing when your song is headed in a direction you don’t want and getting it back on track.

ABOUT DAVID CARTER
David Carter has been a full time professional independent artist for twenty-five years with Carter & Carter various others bands. He has won top songwriting awards both nationally and internationally in a variety of genres won multiple awards including a Golden Guitar and an APRA award, plus had eleven National #1 radio hits with Carter & Carter. Carter & Carter are one of the most awarded Independent Artists in Australia. Together with his partner Merelyn they have taught at the CMAA Academy in Tamworth for over ten years in various roles and run group workshops in songwriting, performance and career planning throughout Australia for all age levels.

Throughout his career David has developed the skills required to build a successful and sustainable career as an artist. He is uniquely equipped to provide a step by step guide to building a career, provide management services and produce high quality products such as videos, songs, artwork, production, websites, promotions and more. His company Crestway Productions holds song writing retreats for all experience levels in Kinglake, Victoria and he is passionate about sharing his insights and skills into writing songs that connect.

As with all ASC Circles, ASC Members have free entry and non-members can attend two meetings for free then become members or pay $15 entry after that.

Attendees are invited to meet at the Grace Darling Hotel from 6pm before the meeting to share a delicious pub meal together.

Register your song title by emailing ascmelbournecircle@gmail.com by midday on Sunday 23rd June (NB do not email the song itself). You can play your song live or have a recorded version of your song on a device that has a headphone jack to plug into our speaker. Please bring 5-10 copies of your lyrics on the night.

The ASC Melbourne Circle Coordinator is singer-songwriter Adam Jones, who has attended two Australian Songwriters Conferences, is signed to Foghorn records in Sydney with worldwide distribution and publishing agreements. He released an album in 2017, an acoustic version of that album in 2018, along with an acoustic single from that album, and is set to release 3 new singles and then a new album in 2019.
