ASC - An OverviewASC - An Overview. The Australian Songwriters Conference inaugural event took place in June 2008 and there have been subsequent ASC’s held in 2009 and 2010. The four-day event has been held in the beautiful seaside village resort of Ettalong Beach on the NSW Central Coast, and focuses on the craft and business of songwriting, attracting writers from across Australia and internationally. The only event of its kind in Australia, the ASC’s main aim is to provide a supportive and nurturing peer environment where attendees can learn more about their craft, get up close and personal with the speakers and mentors who willingly share their time, knowledge and experience, and pitch their songs directly to the publishers who attend the event. ASC annually attracts a professional Faculty of speakers, mentors and publishers that is second to none. The Main Seminar Facilitator for ASC is world renowned Nashville-based songwriter, teacher and author, Jason Blume (Britney Spears, Back Street Boys, Jesse McCartney, Oak Ridge Boys, Collin Raye, John Berry, Gypsy Kings). Past Faculty has included Grammy® Award wining US hit songwriter, Alan Roy Scott (Celine Dion, Luther Vandross, Notorious B.I.G., Gloria Estefan, Cyndi Lauper, Patti LaBelle, Neville Bros. ASC Attendees fly in from all over the country, and internationally to participate in the event, and already a number of them have gone on to write and record with Faculty and hit local and overseas Producers, have signed publishing deals, worked with international rock bands, received song awards and commercial radio airplay, and made huge leaps in their careers - all as a direct result of attending the event. The Australian Songwriters Conference has now established itself as a major songwriter event on the annual music industry calendar. A ‘must do’ for anyone with serious aspirations of a career as a performing or non-performing songwriter, the ASC will continue to provide education, support and career opportunities for many years to come. In 2011, the Australian Songwriters Conference had to be shelved due to a lack of government funding and sponsorship support and the dates for the next ASC have not yet been set. It is hoped that the ASC can take place in 2012 however this is dependant on procuring the necessary financial support required to run an event of this size and caliber. [ <<< return ] |
