1st March, 2011Message from the FounderThe Australian Songwriters Conference has been held annually on the June long weekend since 2008 and is a unique and important event focusing on the craft and business of songwriting. No other event in Australia provides songwriters with the depth and exceptional standard of education, networking and career opportunities that ASC is proud to offer. So, it is with the deepest disappointment and regret I must announce, that due to a lack of funding and sponsorship support, the Australian Songwriters Conference will not be held this year. I would like to thank APRA for approving a $3000 grant for ASC 2011 and for its offer to provide much-needed promotion to APRA members about the event. The ASC costs a minimum of $60,000 (plus promotion and wages) to run each year, and a great deal of time and effort has been spent in the search for funding, however no other grants or sponsorships have been secured, so it is impossible to run the event this year. My team and I will now focus on seeking the financial support needed to run ASC in 2012. As always, the event will be held on the Queens Birthday long weekend (Friday 8th to Monday 11th June 2012). Without songwriters there would be no music in our lives, so it is hoped that my recent "Message to the Music Industry, Media and Community" has raised an awareness of the important role of songwriters in society and the necessity of the Australian Songwriters Conference in assisting them with the craft and career. I would also like to thank my wonderful team of volunteers and the industry professionals on Faculty for everything they do and all the support they offer. And to the many people who sent me emails and phone messages of support after reading the "Message" last week - thank you so much. You have truly inspired me to keep believing in the dream and not give up. I know how much ASC benefits our songwriters and the Music Industry, but its not always easy to keep going.
